When a client walks through the door for their boudoir photography shoot, I know this is a rare opportunity to get to know this person on a deeper level. Although the original intention may have been to surprise their significant other with a beautiful image of themselves, or to capture a moment in time before their body changes, it always ends up meaning so much more.
Once the client walks into my studio, the true benefits of a boudoir photos session begin to reveal themselves. Starting with relaxing music, and a professional hair and makeup session, the client’s everyday stress can begin to melt away. Coming in with a “clean” face and letting the makeup artist begin her artistic creation, is like starting your day with a clean slate and beginning to see other possibilities within yourself of who you can be.
After this first part of the session is over, the music changes and the conversation turns to the reason you are here. At this time, you might be thinking about how thankful you are for your current figure, or health, or about how you had forgotten about that sensual side of yourself because it was long neglected. Or, perhaps you start remembering your first fun, exciting dates with your significant other, or about all the things you love about them and all the ways they have expressed their love for you.
Although many people have a tendency to feel a little self-conscious at the very beginning of the session because they feel so exposed (physically and emotionally), they are soon able to embrace being out of their comfort zone when they realize they are in a judgment-free, safe space. Whereas many people look in a mirror and only see their flaws, I only see beauty when I am looking through my camera lens. It is easy for me to point out to the person in front of me, all their great qualities, because that is truly what I am seeing.
I think a boudoir session not only provides you with beautiful boudoir images to bring home, but it also provides a respite from everyday stresses, as well as a renewed sense of who you truly are on both an external and internal way. It is a chance to re-energize yourself, as well as your relationship, and leave feeling empowered by the whole experience. The memories of the day tend to stay with you much longer than 24 hours, and may even create a shift in your life that you didn’t even realize you needed!
